My Story
As a high school math teacher, I see students struggle every year with communication and writing. In the math classroom, the statement: “I don’t understand math” is usually a result of students’ inability to comprehend what’s being asked. Reading comprehension is a foundational skill that is essential in problem solving and the application of math concepts. Effective writing skills enable students to explain how they derived their solutions. Demonstrating these skills are where students struggle the most.
Does it work? It sure does. This past year, I saw both my daughters navigate through all of their high school courses from the Sciences to English to Computer Science with confidence and skill that set them apart from their peers. They realized their own proficiency when friends repeatedly asked them to edit their work and teachers consistently commented of the clarity of their writing. Learning how to read and write well has enabled them to effortlessly express their own style, ideas, and voice.
As parents, we understand that knowing answers is not enough. Thoughts and ideas must be expressed clearly and convincingly. Write on Q can help.
